Tip of the month: Care for leather

We like spending money for shoes: a survey published in 2007 in the German journal Manager Magazin proved that 22 percent of the men and 21 percent of the women usually spent more than 100 Euros on shoes. Four percent of the men were even willing to buy shoes for more than 200 Euros. In the course of time, this sums up to a lot of money. But no matter the money we spend on shoes, many people apparently rarely or never look after them.

How do you treat your shoes?

The reason for this lack of attention we pay for shoes: people simply do not enjoy cleaning them! And, with the many products that are on the market, most people just do not know which care product is the best. Additionally, different types of leather require different care products. So, how do you treat your shoes?

How to care smooth leather

Before applying a nourishing care product, brush off all dirt with a horsehair brush. If the brush alone cannot remove all dirt, treat the shoe with our pedag FOAM CARE or simply use a damp cloth. For a thorough cleaning effect, use our pedag LEATHER SOAP. Afterwards, allow the shoe to dry and then apply our pedag PREMIUM SHOE POLISH in a matching colour. After a few minutes, use a polishing brush, a cloth or our polishing glove and buff to shine. To finish the process, use a waterproofer to make the shoe water-repellent. This is all you have to do for a perfectly polished shoe!

The perfect care for nubuck and suede

Suede leather, also called buckskin, requires special care and attention. To clean this type of leather and simultaneously lift up the nap, the leather should be treated with pedag NUBUK or a brush that is suitable for rough leathers. Afterwards, use a liquid care product in a matching colour and apply it from heel to tip. If you prefer a spray-on product, use our pedag SUEDE SPRAY. It nourishes the leather and slightly waterproofs the surface. Allow the shoe to dry and then lift up the nap, to make the leather become fluffy and soft again. For a more intense waterproofing effect, suede and nubuck shoes can finally be treated with our pedag WATERPROOFER.

Treating greased leather right

Shoes made of greased leather definitely have to be cleaned before using care products, too. Clean your shoes either with a brush, with our pedag FOAM CARE or with our LEATHER SOAP. Afterwards, apply a suitable care product to maintain the greased look of the leather. Use for example our pedag LEATHER WAX, a rich and nourishing care product for sturdy shoes, or our pedag OILED LEATHER LOTION that meets all the needs of greased and waxed leather. If your greased leather shoes need a colour boost, try our pedag PREMIUM SHOE POLISH. To finish, protect the shoes from water and new dirt with our pedag WAX WATERPROOFER.
